Simple moments of expansive love from our past can connect us when we’ve lost our way.  I remember one of those moments with vivid clarity.

There I was alone on the bluffs of my childhood home – sobbing … and sobbing … and sobbing.

Unfortunately, I was used to my Dad lashing out at my siblings and saying, “If you don’t like it, there’s the door.”  Only this time, as the only child still living at home, it was me who ended up on the receiving end of his venomous vitriol. 👨‍👧

I ran out the door up to our neighboring bluffs overlooking the city. I sobbed and I sobbed as I sat on this rocky ledge, enveloped in despair, hurt, and confusion.

It felt like forever, me just sitting there crying. But then, something amazing happened. 😭🌟

A warm blanket of love enveloped me. A sense of calm washed over and through my being. I felt a sense of knowing there was something bigger than me watching over me and coursing through me. I felt chosen.

From that moment on, I knew that there was a safe place of connection and love that was always there, whether I was aware of it or not. I knew that beyond fear is only love.

My entire being was filled with warmth, calming my senses. From the depth of my soul, I was sure that everything was going to be okay.

I also knew with absolute certainty that Dad’s explosive hatred had NOTHING to do with me.

I felt safe. I felt loved. 💜💕

This was one of my first “spiritual” experiences.

During other times of intense pain in my life, I would remember that healing moment and feel into its soothing balm, bringing serenity into excruciating pain. It transported me out of hell and into love.

To this day, that moment stands as a steadfast anchor of love for me.

I’m thinking of Sarah McLachlan’s song, “Angel”.

“You’re in the arms of the angel. May you find some comfort here.”
