You can’t love what you have if you don’t love who you are. Learning to love yourself requires learning to love all that life offers, including the pain. We become sick and tired of our own attitudes and thoughts about ourselves. I see this all the time in my work with my clients, and even in doing my own work. I encourage everyone to look at their lives and their feelings, and bring mindfulness to them as a way to heal and transform. Time and time again, guilt shows up as a major block to loving ourselves.
Guilt is a major contributor to not loving who you are. Whether you have hurt another or have gone against your own truth, you will ultimately feel that burn. Guilt is one of the most destructive emotions to get lost in. When guilt overwhelms you, you can end up consumed by feelings of disappointment, unworthiness or even self-hatred. It is a major joy-suck in your life. When you latch onto guilt, it can consume you and lock you into despair or a serious case of “why bother.”
Of course, you want to be more loving and kind in your life, but knowing better doesn’t always mean doing better. You can chalk this up to the human experience and see it as an invitation to evolve through the conflict and contrast life offers. It is natural to learn the importance of being present and connected in your life through the contrast of experiencing disconnect and pain. The journey of life offers you an education, to learn what works and what doesn’t. Keeping the lesson and letting go of the held guilt is essential to your happiness. You get to learn from all of the lessons life offers and how not to make the same choices again. Your life is and has been offering you exactly what you need to learn, grow and transform.
The good news is that if you don’t learn the lesson this time, life will most likely line another one up for you just like it. Even if the people and location change, the lesson offered is often the same. Doing your work, and leaning into places of guilt, whether from your distant past or from earlier today, is essential to living the happiness you deserve. Think about it like this, any held emotional charges take up space in your psyche and act as a drain that keep you from being happy.
In my past, I knew love as fear… and that wasn’t love. Chances are you have too. Be gentle and kind with yourself as you open and learn new ways of navigating life. Your greatest hurdles can seem insurmountable and impossible to move through alone. The good news is that you don’t have to do this alone and we can do this together. As an Intuitive Counselor, I work with people who are struggling with relationships, loneliness or feelings of depression and want to make the pain go away. I believe by courageously facing the confusion and pain, you can free yourself and live a life you love.
The Tao teaches us to be like water and to go with flow. Please note it specifically advises not to be like stagnant water which goes nowhere and gets stale. Go with the flow my friend. I love you and I appreciate you and your journey.
