Years ago, I taught summer swim lessons to 6 – 8 year old children. I enjoyed telling this buoyant class that, “The way we swim is the way we live, and the way we live is the way we swim.”
I went on to explain that when we are afraid in life, we contract and we sink— just like swimming. But when we relax and know we are safe, we can move through the water and have fun doing it.
As in life, it is essential to first move through the sense of sinking before moving into the experience of floating. We call that Trust.
Doing anything new can be scary and exciting. Fear and excitement are similar, and the only difference is your perception. In both cases, you are anticipating what comes next. If you are excited, you welcoming the experience with open arms. If you are afraid, you will dread or resist the experience.
In awareness, the more you can experience life through excitement, acceptance, and with a welcoming open heart, the more you will enjoy and even Love YOUR life.
Life is to be lived. You can fight what is, flail around and sink, or go with the flow. You get to decide.
