Pain As A Gift

quote dalai lama

Have you ever considered the benefit of experiencing hardships?

Some of my greatest shifts in consciousness have come through my greatest challenges in life: the death of my daughter Amy at 9 days old, ending an abusive marriage, letting go of people who didn’t love, value and respect me (a reflection of how I didn’t love, value or respect myself).

Often we are disappointed and frustrated because life isn’t what we want it to be. Open to knowing that your life is especially tailored for YOU! All the bumps and scrapes offer us the benefit of hardships, and opening to the teaching our lives offer. How open are you to receiving? Once I asked a client who had stage IV cancer, “What has been the gift of cancer for you?” She got excited and beamed. With a huge smile she said, “Cancer has given me my life.” She went on to say she no longer did anything she didn’t want to do. In the awareness that her life was limited, she, along with her family and friends, opened their hearts to what truly mattered, and she loved it! You get to Love your life too. Exactly as it is!

Being in pain is a part of our human experience. Making pain wrong, causes us to suffer. We can choose to view a painful life experience as a lesson in inspiration that supports us in aligning with our truths (these truths are often not the same as our stories and beliefs about ourselves). Aligning with our truths help us to accept our lives, exactly as they are, with a greater sense of peace and empowerment.
