Walking on eggshells doesn’t stop your kid’s tantrum, your boss’s outburst, or that asshole driver’s road rage. 🥚🥚🥚

More often than not, walking on eggshells just kicks the can down the road to be dealt with another day. 

Think about it. 

When you walk on eggshells to keep your kid from having an outburst in the store, and you placate them trying to control their behavior, does that stop them from screaming at you the next time they want the fruit loops you’re not willing to buy? 

It doesn’t. 🙄

Instead, you’re teaching them what to do in order to get what they want. You’re teaching them how to control and manipulate you. 

Ultimately, the situation will escalate until you’re forced to no longer bring them to the store. 

And as they age, that same pattern will follow you both, raising the stakes until you’re in an all out screaming war over their curfew, with no idea how things got so messy or who controls what. 

What if you recognized that the reason you can’t show up firmly and say ‘no’ is because you’re actually triggered by your own childhood and there’s things from your past you’ve never resolved? 

Or because you’re too busy feeling like a shitty mom for not giving them whatever they ask for? 

Walking on eggshells is a survival technique you learned from your past.

And while it may seem like it’s helping de-escalate situations and prevent people in your life from getting angry, it’s not dealing with the core issues—and it limits you. Because avoiding the situation never makes it any better.

P.S. If you’d rather show the F up, meet other people toe-to-toe, and accept them as they are (which is EXACTLY how you have a better experience with life even when no one else changes), you need to heal the charged emotions keeping you stuck.
